We’re a little late to the party, The Xbox Developer Direct has been and gone for 2026. But we have notes! It’s looking like a long-needed, good year for Xbox studios.
We’ve seen the return of legends. Some fresh creativity from Double Fine. And the absolute shocker that Game Freak is stepping out of its Nintendo-shaped box.
Plus, the “everything is multi-platform” era is looking like it might actually be here now.
If you missed the showcase while grinding out levels in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, don’t worry. We’ve got the full breakdown of everything announced right here at ninjarefinery.com.
Forza Horizon 6
Release Date: 19th May 2026 (Xbox/PC) | Late 2026 (PS5)
It’s finally happening. After years of speculation and fan-made trailers, Playground Games is taking the festival to Japan.
Forza Horizon 6 looks absolutely stunning. We’re talking Tokyo highways, Hokkaido countryside, and drifting around Mount Fuji. The trailer showed off dynamic weather that changes with the seasons (classic Horizon), but the scale of Tokyo is what really caught our eye—they’re calling it the biggest map they’ve ever made.
You start as a tourist and work your way up to unlocking “Legend Island.” With over 550 cars at launch, we are going to lose so many hours to this.
The Kicker: It’s hitting Game Pass Day One (obviously), but it’s also coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. Everyone gets to race. Exceptional stuff.
Beast of Reincarnation
Release Date: Summer 2026
When you see “Game Freak,” you think Pokémon. You generally don’t think “post-apocalyptic Japan on Xbox,” but here we are.
Beast of Reincarnation is a brand-new IP that looks like a serious departure for the studio. You play as Emma, accompanied by her dog, Koo (instant Game of the Year contender just for the dog, let’s be honest). The world is overrun by “The Blight” and parasitic plants.
The gameplay showed off Emma using vine-like powers to traverse the world, and Koo has his own set of abilities to help fight “Malefacts”—enemies that are a twisted mix of plant and animal. It’s weird, it’s wonderful, and it’s coming to Xbox, PC, and PS5 Day One.
Kiln
Release Date: Spring 2026
Double Fine is doing what Double Fine does best: making something that looks like an absolute fever dream in the best possible way.
Kiln is a team-based multiplayer brawler where you create your own characters… out of clay. Literally. You use a magical pottery wheel to mold your fighter—make a tanky pot or a speedy little vase—and then send them out to smash the enemy team.
The trailer highlighted the creation mechanics, and it looks like you can get properly creative (or make absolute monstrosities). It’s got that signature Double Fine charm and humour. We can’t wait to jump into the beta.
Fable
Release Date: Autumn 2026
Fourteen years. It’s been fourteen years since Fable III. But we are finally going back to Albion.
The new Fable looks to capture that quintessentially British humour we’ve missed so much. You start as a kid in a village (tradition is key), things go wrong (people turning to stone), and you’re off on a hero’s journey.
What sounds most interesting is the new reputation system. It’s not just “Good vs Evil” anymore; it’s a greyer morality system where the 1,000+ NPCs will judge you based on your specific actions. You can buy houses, get married, and generally cause chaos.
It’s landing in Autumn, and yes, it’s Day One on Game Pass.
Final Thoughts
2026 is shaping up to be a beast. Between a Japan-set Forza and the return of Fable, our Game of the Year lists are already looking crowded.
Xbox needs to land some of these, and whilst we expect Forza Horizon 6 to smash it. Will Fable be able to bring the much-beloved series into modern times whilst keeping all the charm and fun?
The real one to watch, is the Game Freak title, Beast of Reincarnation. Have we ever seen Game Freak do something non-Nintendo? Very interesting, indeed!
