Last night (31st July 2025) saw a massive live event from EA to introduce Battlefield 6 multiplayer. But it went beyond that too. With snippets from producers and directors of the 4 studios that have been working on it.
Clips and trailers for destruction, gametypes, classes. This was a big event, something akin to those older E3 press events back in the mid 2000’s.
All live on YouTube, and with over 200 content creators sat in this massive studio environment ready to stream actual gameplay.
Battlefield 6 feels like its coming out swinging. Is it desperation from EA/DICE because they need it to be a massive hit? Or is it because they understand what the fans have been crying out for and have confidence in what’s to come?
I think both……

Battlefield 6 event
The event was huge. A press auditorium with massive screens (think 3DX at a cinema), to showcase all the footage.
A stage where Battlefield 6 developers got to introduce themselves and segue into different elements of the game.
Then, of course there’s the gameplay and the cinematics.
There was an APC in the corner under the livery on a wal saying “In Squad we trust”. 200+ content creators each with a rig, dual displays and their stream setups ready to go. This was big.
The confidence was strong, but we’ve been burned by bad releases from EA regularly, so lets temper expectations.
What I took away, and what I assume was the intention…..was that the studios have been listening and they say they know what the fans want (what “the fans” means, is of course subjective).
Focus on the classic core Battlefield experience. With more destruction than ever before. This is the standard classes, core game modes, destruction and maps that cater to different play styles.

The core Battlefield experience
If you’ve played Battlefield before 2042 came out. You know what the classic classes are. Battlefield 6 wants to return to that, basic, functional role-based squad combat.
Assault – Your front-line pusher. Dual primary weapons, run, gun, go go go.
Engineer – Frontlines, but behind the advancing Assault. Armed with rockets and mines. Capable of vehicle damage and repair with their standard kit.
Support – Similar to the engineer. This role stays on the front line, backing-up the advancing party. Providing supplies and heals. Can deploy portable cover.
Recon – Everyone wants to be the ace sniper. Not everyone is capable (like me….). Designed to scout from the periphery of the battlefield. Sniping, using a drone to mark targets for allies. Armed with C4 and laser designator to help rocket guidance for your engineers.
Combined with the new “kinaesthetic combat system”. Those frontlines are going to feel like classic Battlefield chaos.

The takeaways
The Battlefield 6 event was all about showing off, for sure. But it was about sharing detail, and some of the big stuff was officially announced as well.
Release date: 10/10/2025
Only a few months away! Which is why there’s also going to be an open beta to play multiplayer over the next 2 weekend. 9th-10th August and 16th-17th August.
There will be 9 maps at launch, of which a few were shown briefly. With a select few picked for the beta.
Portal is back, with a new suite of tools, a mode much more akin to that of Halo’s Forge than the Battlefield 2042 version.
Battlefield 6 has been in development for the past 4 years, by 4 of EA’s studios. Motive, DICE, Criterion and Ripple Effect. Perhaps more intriguingly, it was hinted that Ripple Effect had been working on a new version of “Firestorm” which was Battlefield’s take on the Battle Royale genre. This will be one to watch!

What do we think?
I have a lot of questions around performance that will hopefully become clear in the Open Beta sessions. Because I just can’t see my PC running Battlefield 6 so well (the recommended specs seem too good to be true….). Especially with all that destruction.
Beyond that, do EA seem to be pinning a lot of their hopes on to this one? It felt a little over-blown. For a company that’s done more than its fair share of layoffs recently, it feels a bit gaudy to put on such a grand (obviously expensive) display.
It’s a little gross to invest so heavily in the marketing. But when you need your game to land and reach as many people as possible, how else do you approach it?
I personally liked the hero-shooter elements of Battlefield 2042, but have always loved the core classes and gameplay. So I’m happy either way.
I hope that Battlefield 6 appeases “the fans” but it’s such an obscure target these days. Nobody is happy with anything, and everyone wants to complain. Battlefield gams have traditionally been riddled with launch issues, so lets see if EA can finally land one in a good state.
