Kojima Announces ‘DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS’ Animated Series, Streaming Exclusively on Disney+ in 2027
The new, hand-drawn 2D series from E&H production will tell a completely original story set within the game’s universe.
Get ready to reconnect, porters. In a surprise announcement today at the Disney+ Originals Preview in Hong Kong, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima took the stage to reveal his next big project: DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS (Working Title), an all-new original animated series streaming exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
This marks the first-ever partnership between Kojima Productions and a global streaming platform, bringing the critically acclaimed, genre-bending world of DEATH STRANDING to a new medium. The series is being developed by the “up-and-coming” Japanese animation studio E&H production.
A New Story of Isolation
Kojima, serving as Executive Producer, was joined on stage by series director Takayuki Sano to confirm that ISOLATIONS will not be an adaptation of the games. Instead, it will tell a completely new story that runs parallel to the events of the games.
The series will follow a young man and woman on their own adventure, separate from Sam Bridges. However, the world remains the same, and their story will intersect with the themes and even characters from the franchise.
The official synopsis teases multiple new perspectives:
Somewhere in North America, just as Sam Bridges walks through the continent in order to save America, the someones are also trying to deal with their isolation in their own way. An old man trying to realize salvation through ways outside of the connection advocated by Bridges.
A female warrior who tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting. A boy with a grudge against Bridges. A girl who embraces loneliness.
On the precipice of the end of humanity and the world, their fates and hopes converge, as another story of Death Stranding begins.
Top-Tier Creative Team
Fans of high-quality animation have reason to be excited. The series will be animated in a traditional, hand-drawn 2D style.
Concept art was also revealed from Ilya Kuvshinov, who is serving as the Original Character Designer. Kuvshinov is famously known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.

The DEATH STRANDING franchise has captivated over 20 million players since its 2019 debut, with the sequel, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, having just launched in June of this year.
