Getting started in Battlefield 6

Ok, we’ve succumbed to our whims and gone and gotten Battlefield 6. Not that we have the time, with so many other games on the go at the moment and preparing for game of the year.

But, we’re here and pretty bloody chuffed that we’re getting stuck-in the the classic Battlefield multiplayer that we’ve loved for many years now. Conquest in Battlefield 6 is as fun an exhilarating as any other entry,

Anyway. Because we’re conscious of how much we can dive into battlefield 6 at any given time, we’ve put together some tips to help others in the same boat. So you can make the most of it every time you jump in.

Note that, you can just play and have fun (something a lot of people forget, these days). So don’t sweat it if you’re just playing and enjoying yourself. that’s the most important bit.

Leveling, XP Boosts, and Challenges

Much like Call of Duty, Battlefield have added XP boost tokens. Feel about it, how you like. If you have some, you had may as well make the most fo them, right?!

  • XP Boosts are Real-Time: This is the most important tip. XP Boosts (for Career, Weapons, or Battle Pass) count down in real-time, even if you are logged out. Don’t activate a 60-minute booster and then log off.
  • Activate Boosts in a Match: To maximize your time, only activate a boost once you’re in a match, not while sitting in the menu or editing loadouts.
  • Don’t Stack Boosts: They are rare. Activate them one at a time, just in case you get interrupted.
  • Farm Bots for Challenges: The fastest way to complete grindy challenges (like “15 melee kills”) and level up your weapon attachments is in Portal mode. You can create your own server or join an existing one and farm bots. All challenge progress and unlocks count.

Vehicle and Movement Mastery

Vehicles are a staple in Battlefield, and being an ace pilot or a sturdy tank driver, can be the different between a win and a loss.

However, in Battlefiled 6, like all titles in the series. People don’t like you being bad, or learning on the job….

  • Learn to Fly in Portal: The best way to practice flying jets and helicopters is in a Portal server against bots. You can learn the controls without being shot down in two seconds.
  • Use Helicopter Control Assists: If you struggle with flying, go to the settings and turn on Helicopter Control Assists. This will make the helicopter auto-hover, allowing you to focus on aiming instead of constantly adjusting.
  • Instant Driver Seat: If your vehicle’s driver bails, don’t spam the ‘switch seat’ button. Press B (Xbox) or Circle (PlayStation) to instantly jump into the driver’s seat.
  • Swap Tank Ammo: You can swap your tank’s primary shell type (e.g., from anti-infantry to anti-vehicle) by pressing right on the D-pad or the ‘B’ key on PC.
  • Sprint Faster: You run faster when holding your knife, defibrillator, or blowtorch. (Note: The sledgehammer slows you down).
  • Reduce Fall Damage: When jumping from a height, press the crouch button just before you land to perform a combat roll and survive the fall.

Weapon and Loadout Tactics

  • Last-Second Loadout Change: Just spawned with the wrong kit? As long as you haven’t left the deployment zone, you can hold the ‘select’ button to change your loadout.
  • Control Your Fire: Weapon bloom (inaccuracy) is high in this game. Avoid spraying full-auto at distant targets. Use burst-fire or semi-auto mode for medium-to-long range.
  • Bipod Anywhere: For LMGs and sniper rifles, you can deploy your bipod anywhere by going prone and pressing the melee button.
  • Assault Class Ammo: To get more ammo for your primary weapon as Assault, equip a second gadget instead of a second primary weapon. If you carry two primary weapons, the ammo pool is split between them.

Team Play and Awareness

Battlefield 6, like all the other titles in the series. Thrives when you’re playing co-operatively with your squas. But the wider team needs some consideration, too!

  • Enlarge Your Mini-Map: Go into your settings and change the Mini-Map Size to Large. Constant map awareness is key to survival.
  • Wait for Revives: Don’t immediately respawn. Call for a medic and wait. Staying near your team and getting revived will massively improve your K/D ratio and save your team’s tickets.
  • Medics: Ping Your Revives! When playing as Support, ping a downed teammate to let them know you’re on the way. This stops them from giving up and respawning.
  • Full-Charge Defibs: Always fully charge your defibrillator paddles before reviving. A quick tap only gives them half health, but a full charge brings them back at 100%, ready to fight.

Gadget Guide: The Good and The Bad

  • Adrenaline Stim Counter: The Adrenaline Stim not only makes you faster but also completely negates the effects of stun and flashbang grenades.
  • Creative Ladders: The Assault’s ladder gadget can be used as a bridge between rooftops or leaned against a wall at an angle to peek over cover from an unexpected spot.
  • Stop, Drop, and Roll: If you’re on fire from an incendiary grenade, immediately go prone to put out the flames.
  • The EOD Bot: This Engineer gadget is a beast. It can arm/disarm Rush objectives, repair vehicles, place anti-vehicle mines, and its little blowtorch can kill enemy players.
  • Smoke Blocks Thermals: Smoke grenades are essential for revives and objectives, but they also completely block all thermal scopes.
  • Gadgets to AVOID: Currently, the Breaching Projectile (doesn’t penetrate walls as described) and the Portable Mortar (wildly inaccurate, low damage, long travel time) are not worth using.

Explosives and Melee

  • C4 Drones: You can place C4 on a Recon Drone and fly it into tanks. Be aware that more C4 drains the drone’s battery faster.
  • RPGs vs. Infantry: Rocket launchers have very weak splash damage against infantry. You must score a direct hit to get a kill.
  • Slow-Roll Mines: You can drive a tank over anti-vehicle mines without detonating them if you move at an extremely slow crawl.
  • Melee Damage:
    • Knife: 3 hits (front), 1 (back/prone).
    • Sledgehammer: 2 hits (front), 1 (back/prone).
    • Defibrillator: 2 hits (1 charged + 1 uncharged).

Stealth, Sniping, and Recon

  • How Suppressors Work: A suppressor hides you from the mini-map only if you are beyond 15 meters from an enemy. Inside 15 meters, you will still appear when you fire.
  • Countering Motion Sensors: Motion sensors won’t detect crouched or prone players. They will detect you if you fire your weapon—unless you are using a suppressed weapon.
  • Ducking Claymores: You can crouch-walk or crawl right past an enemy Claymore without setting it off.
  • Hide Your Laser: Enemies can see your laser attachment! Toggle it off when you’re trying to be stealthy.
  • Aggressive Decoys: The Recon’s decoy gadget creates a fake scope glint. Don’t just use it for sniping. Place 2-3 crouched decoys inside an objective room. Enemies rushing in will shoot the decoys, giving you the first shot.

Advanced Sniping Settings

  • All Sniper Scopes Have Glint: On a sniper rifle, every single scope attachment has glint, even a 1x red dot. The only way to be glint-free is to use iron sights or the canted iron sight attachment.
  • Use the Recon Class: The Recon class has passively better accuracy and stability with sniper rifles than any other class.
  • Game-Changer #1: Auto-Steady: Go to your keybinds and set “Steady Scope” (hold breath) to the same button as “Aim” (L2/LT or Right-Click). You will now automatically hold your breath and steady your scope every time you aim.
  • Game-Changer #2: Auto-Zeroing: If you use the rangefinder attachment, set “Rangefinder Zeroing” to your “Fire” button (R2/RT or Left-Click). When you shoot at an enemy, your scope will automatically zero to their exact distance, making follow-up shots and target switching effortless.

Have fun

Battlefield 6 is a chaotic game, playing on the frontlines is tough and certainly it feels faster-paced than the earlier games.

Don’t worry about grinding or over doing it. Hell, don’t worry about anything above if it comes at a detriment to you having a good time.

We play games to have fun, to wind-down or escape. Making it a chore, getting worked-up or frustrated, are not ideal.

Just have a good time, Battlefield 6 is ripe for good times with your friends or with random squads. Play the objectives, learn what works for you, and go for it.
