We just got our Platinum Trophy in Spider-Man 2 and were wondering what magic we’ll see next from Insomniac games, with the Wolverine licence. Then, like magic, they’ve just dropped a bombshell.
Officially announcing that the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine will be slashing its way exclusively to the PlayStation 5 in the fall of 2026. The news came directly from the PlayStation Blog, sending waves of excitement through the gaming community.
Strong pedigree
Following the massive success of Marvel’s Spider-Man (1 and 2) and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Insomniac Games is set to delve into the darker, more brutal side of the Marvel universe with one of its most iconic characters.
While details are still scarce, the announcement confirms that the game will be a standalone adventure, separate from the Spider-Man universe.
“We’re honored to have the opportunity to bring this beloved character to life on the PlayStation 5,” said a spokesperson for Insomniac Games. “Wolverine’s complex personality and raw power make for a truly compelling narrative, and we can’t wait for fans to see what we’re cooking up.”
We can all rest assured that Wolverine is in safe hands, based on the Spider-Man games alone. These guys know what they’re doing, and getting to see them flex a little, is exciting!

A bloody mess
Given Wolverine’s violent nature, it’s widely expected that the game will carry a mature rating, allowing Insomniac to fully explore the character’s savage combat style and gritty backstory.
The amount of blood and scenes of claws in/through people, just during the trailer, is enough to let us know where the content is heading. Mature, for sure.
All being well it isn’t gratuitous and also the overall tone of the game matches the on-screen chaos. It’s a difficult balancing act, for sure. Particularly when leaning into the comic book stylings of these things. Insomniac will have some work to do here.
Fall 2026
Fans are already speculating about the potential storylines, with many hoping to see classic comic book arcs like “Old Man Logan” or “Weapon X” serve as inspiration.
The move to a Fall 2026 release window gives the development team ample time to polish the game and harness the full power of the PS5. We can expect stunning visuals, lightning-fast loading times, and hopefully, innovative use of the DualSense controller to truly immerse players in the role of the Wolverine.
It’s going to feel like a long wait, but it’ll be here before we know it! As we see more updates and information, we’ll d our best to share it here first.
