The Hitman World of Assassination is one of our all-time favourite series. So being able to talk about it at any given opportunity is a joy. Unfortunately, in this instance, there’s nothing really positive to be drawn from it, other than IO Interactive taking a stance, which is 100% the right thing to do.
Connor McGregor
IO Interactive, the studio behind the popular Hitman series, has announced the end of its collaboration with MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
The decision follows a recent court ruling in which McGregor was ordered to pay damages for assaulting a woman who had accused him of rape.
McGregor appeared in Hitman World of Assassination as a limited-time Elusive Target called “The Disruptor.”
IO Interactive will remove all content featuring McGregor’s likeness and voiceover work from its storefronts, including the Elusive Target mission and a DLC pack that provided permanent access to The Disruptor content.
The studio emphasized the seriousness of the situation and its commitment to addressing the implications of the court ruling.
IO Interactive
This news follows IO Interactive’s recent announcement delaying Hitman World of Assassination’s PlayStation VR2 release to March 2025.
The studio has also launched a third-party publishing division, IOI Partners, which has signed its first title, MindsEye, from Build A Rocket Boy.
Our take
Massive respect to IO Interactive to taking a stance. We’re not 100% sure what this means for those who have already purchased the content. Hopefully, the mission and all the work that went into building it won’t go to waste, because it’s one of my favourites.
Plus, the opportunity to Assassinate Connor McGregor is arguably even more appealing now that it was before.
