Killing Conor McGregor – Hitman

There’s a title I never thought I’d write!

I’m weirdly a bit of a fan of Conor McGregor. I can totally see how folk would not like him. Over-confident, mouthy etc etc. But, you can’t deny his success, right?

All those titles, then a starring role in the Roadhouse re-make (I also enjoyed that for what it was!). Now, now this, to me is the pinnacle of his career. The pinnacle of anyone’s career.

Conor McGregor is the latest target in Hitman World of Assassination. Sean Bean was my first (there’s a sentence!), and now Conor McGregor……

Conor McGregor in Hitman?

How does it work, I suspect some may be thinking?

Well, Hitman is built around levels of near limitless playability. You can go back and take-down targets in so many ways. Each map is a beautifully-crafted sandbox, that you learn to master over time.

You can use the environment, learn where different NPCs are, so you can get the right disguise to get access to the right places and take your target down.

What’s better is that IO Interactive built these sandboxes with change in mind. The community can build and share custom missions. Or……IOI can build new missions like this.

Getting a celebrity can’t be easy. The rights, the body scans, the acting. But the agreement to be killed literally millions of times. Conor McGregor isn’t daft, he knows people aren’t all fans. Putting himself in there to be killed is hell of a career choice.

I think it’s smart, though. He’s on everyone’s lips. He has exposure to a potential subset of new fans/haters.

No such thing as bad press, right? And if you buy the premium version of the DLC (it’s like £3!), people can kill him over and over.

The mission itself

Using the Isle of Sgàil map. You’re a guest on the Island where a billionaire is over-confident in his abilities in MMA.

Tim Quinn, CEO and MMA chump has decided to arrange a fight to the death in the octagon with Conor McGregor. We’re deployed, because even though Tim has plenty of enemies, there must be too much damage potential to stocks and business. So we’re hired to save him.

So far, in a quick initial run, I managed to just take a quick, silenced shot off from a tower. Turns out Conor McGregor’s training room is right below there. So now I’m going back to see what kind of damage I can do there, too!

Oh the ways we’ll find to take him down.

One thing to remember with these Elusive Targets, is that if you fail there’s a penalty. You can’t do the mission again, unless it comes back around. Or if you own the paid version of the DLC, and you can try again in 12 hours.

Don’t mess it up!

Level 2 makes the requirements much more strict, and honestly, tougher. I’ll see how it goes, although I’m expecting to see that 12 hour countdown occurring pretty regularly!

What next?

I’ll be honest, with all the post-release development supposedly finished on Hitman 3, the seasonal releases with tweaked missions and rewards, have been more than anticipated.

Seeing the return of Sean Bean (he was an elusive target in Hitman 2!) was the icing on the cake for me. My chance at retribution after messing it up so badly.

Now, though, after all that, we get all of this, too? Conor McGregor is a big pull to a game I thought was basically out of active development. There must have been a lot of work put into this, when we all thought IOI were done, here we are.

I can’t imagine we’ll see anything quite so significant again, but what the hell do I know? Maybe celebrity targets is a new avenue that could keep the World of Assassination going forever.

I’m absolutely down for that!

Hopefully the quality remains, the series lasts for years, and I’m able to come back time and time again to report such fun.

Let’s see what the future holds.

Now, go get your fur coat and take down Conor McGregor, Agent.
