Get ready, everyone. NetEase’s highly anticipated hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, is dropping this December 6th with a roster of 33 playable Marvel heroes. All completely free-to-play.
This 6v6 action-fest (think Overwatch meets the Marvel Universe) has been getting some decent hype, especially after some playtests a couple of months ago (we didn’t get in….).
Now, with the recent reveal of five new characters and a release date only a couple of days away. We’re joining the ranks of those getting excited.
The latest revealed heroes are:
- Squirrel Girl
- Black Widow
- Cloak & Dagger
- Iron Fist
- Wolverine
Marvel Rivals – hero reveal discourse
While each hero’s design has sparked discussion, it’s Wolverine who’s truly stealing the show (and dividing opinions!). This isn’t your typical Logan. Sporting a more youthful appearance, casual attire (complete with a “W” belt buckle!), and a noticeable lack of his iconic mask, this Wolverine has fans both intrigued and perplexed.
Based on the fact that Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game, I’d say there’s good chance to see more classic costumes available to purchase. So it’s likely not getting worked-up about.
There have been so many iterations and costumes of the Marvel super heroes, over decades, there’s so much to pull from. It’ll be interesting to see how new skins look in due course.

Marvel Rivals – The lore
The merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.
Now, Super Heroes and Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups each seek to best both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!
Let’s go!
We’re long-time Marvel fans here at ninjarefinery.com and long-time Overwatch fans, too (although that has died off as of late….). It feels like a match made in heaven, and I’ve read, watched and heard enough to know it could be something quite special.
Hero looks are the furthest from my mind. Team synergies, individual abilities and movements. It feels like we’re going to have a lot to learn and discover.
You’ll be sure to see some quick-look content, news and reviews on Marvel Rivals over the next couple of months, both here and at fullsync.co.uk so keep those eyes peeled!
