The Game Awards 2025 has come to a close, and history has been made. In a night filled with massive announcements and fierce competition, one title stood tall above the rest. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the stunning turn-based RPG from French studio Sandfall Interactive, has been crowned Game of the Year.
It wasn’t just the big prize that Expedition 33 took home; the game absolutely swept the ceremony, securing a staggering nine awards in total.

A Night for the History Books
Sandfall Interactive’s debut title beat out heavy hitters like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hades II, and the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong for the top honour. The game’s victory is a massive win for turn-based RPG fans, proving the genre is more vibrant than ever.
In addition to Game of the Year, Clair Obscur also won:
- Best Game Direction
- Best Narrative
- Best RPG
- Best Independent Game
- Best Score and Music
- Best Art Direction
- Best Debut Indie Game
- Best Performance (Jennifer English)
To celebrate the massive win, Director Guillaume Broche announced a free content update available right now, featuring a new location, new bosses, and weapons.

What do you think?
It seems to us that Ghost of Yotei has been robbed of some recognition from the industry at this years’ Game Awards. But we’ve not had chance to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, yet. So maybe we’re due to have our minds blown at some point next year?
It’s nice to see that Battlefield 6 got a nod, which is well deserved. What’s more interesting, though is that Monster Hunter Wilds is nowhere to be seen. One of our top contenders for the ninjarefinery.com Game of the Year, and it’s not even a blip at The Game Awards.
