Keeping up with coffee and games

The past month has seen quite a drop in me creating and publishing posts. Not so much because I have nothing to write about, but because I’m struggling for time at the minute.  Coffee is being drunk, games are being played, but I’m not getting it all up here.

With four or five half-written pieces on mobile games and coffee’s and a notebook full of stuff for Battlefront II, Battlefield V etc. There’s always a lot to go at.

Better yet, I’m incredibly fortunate to have wonderful friends and family and actually have more games and consoles than any one person can play at once.

In an effort to create a post this week, I figured it was a good idea to do a little “here’s what’s coming” type piece.

The next month is going to be brutal in terms of posting stuff, or rather, finding time to do so.

This isn’t some kind of “woe is me”, though.  I’ve got so much to dig into, I’m really excited! I’m actually well entrenched in playing/drinking through a lot of stuff.

Coffee

The area that I really want to develop on the site, is the quantity and quality of the coffee reviews.

As it stands I’ve got 5 different blends from Macedonia to try. The product of Coffee & Friends, and I’m having a blast.

Each coffee goes through my 5-brew process. Moka Pot, Cafetiere, Espresso Machine, V60 and Aeropress.

On top of that, I’m constantly experimenting and researching the grinds, relative to the method I’m trying. Working on extraction times, bloom timings and every little variable that makes a world of difference.

Consistency in reviews is critical and something I take quite seriously.

If you’re not always learning and improving, why bother, right?

Coffee is going to come on in a big way towards the back end of this year. Keep an eye out!

Gaming

Currently (and likely always) the biggest part of this site. Something I love, something that I do alone and do with friends.

The gaming sphere has changed a lot over the last few years. With publishers/developers wanting you to play their one game solely for as long as possible.

Honestly, it makes it hard to move from game to game. I invest significant amounts of my time into these things, and tearing away from them is sometimes hard to do.

On the reverse of that, continually flipping from game to game is an expensive hobby!

As it stands, I’m playing or lining up to play and write about the following:

  • Hitman 2
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Tetris 99
  • The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild (Switch version)
  • Final Fantasy VIII remaster (Switch)
  • The Last Guardian
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Fortnite (Switch)
  • Warframe (Switch)
  • Dr Mario World
  • Teppen
  • Gears of War 4
  • Gears 5 (pending a gamepass renewal)
  • Nintendo Switch review/write-up
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (I’m not buying the DLC until all of the above are complete!)
  • Battlefront II (it’s all been written in my notepad, I just need to type it out)
  • Battlefield V
  • Pokemon Sword/Shield

This is all before people go crazy for the likes of Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2 Shadowkeep.

You see, there’s a lot that I love, and a lot coming out in the run-up to Christmas. It’s amazing and I always have something to write about. But when things like work and life in general eat into that time, it’s not always easy to get pen to paper.

It’ll balance out. And to be honest, having the Switch means I can get into some massive releases even when I’m not at home.

Writing opinion is one thing, but getting enough time and understanding with something is important. I could chuck out thoughts on anything, but where’s the sincerity? Where do facts get replaced for feelings and opinions?

There’s plenty I don’t like the looks of, but without really giving things time, I’m not prepared to make stuff up. Hence the current drought.

Other changes

Once I get my degree finished off, I’m starting another re-do of the site. This will include the removal of the “music” category (I spread myself too thin, and this is an area that I just don’t do enough with).

I’ll be looking at a new name, because refinery doesn’t seem to work well with people, and I’ll be looking at a new aesthetic, too.

Once I’m finally happy that everything clicks into place and the site is squared-up a bit, that will be it for a few years. I want t-shirts and stickers, a name that people can read quickly and easily read.

I’d like to be a mildly recognisable name in a vast industry. Not looking for video plays or stream subscribers. Just a small corner of the internet where people can read honest and thorough content.

So……yeah, I’m busy. I’m going to make myself busier with changes, but it’s therapeutic and honestly something I just love doing.

Narrowed focus, cleaner and more accessible content, and a name people can say.

Simple!
