Monster Hunter Wilds: Directors Letter May 2025

Hunters worldwide, prepare for a wave of thrilling new content as Monster Hunter Wilds announces significant updates on the horizon, as detailed in a recent letter from Director Yuya Tokuda. The highly anticipated Ver. 1.011 update, arriving today, May 28th, is set to unleash formidable challenges and exciting collaborations.

The cliff notes

A highlight of the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds patch is a special crossover with Street Fighter 6, introducing the iconic martial artist Akuma as a new challenger.

Hunters will also be able to acquire the Akuma full armor set, granting powerful special attacks like “Assisted Combo: Akuma” and “Drive Impact,” bringing a new dimension to combat.

For veteran hunters seeking greater thrills, Ver. 1.011 will also introduce 8★ Challenging Monsters. These include tempered versions of fan-favorite beasts such as Gore Magala and Rey Dau, available to players at Hunter Rank 41 and above. These tempered foes boast increased health and resistance, promising intense battles for those who dare to face them.

Looking further ahead, Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2, scheduled for this summer, will expand the game’s roster with brand-new monsters, including new tempered and even Arch-tempered variants, ensuring a continuous flow of fresh prey for skilled hunters.

Quality of life

Beyond new monsters, the updates will bring crucial quality-of-life improvements and balance adjustments. Ver. 1.011 will see weapon balance changes for the Hammer, Hunting Horn, and Gunlance, with more tweaks planned for Title Update 2.

Hunters can look forward to convenient features such as the ability to rest in the Grand Hub and Suja, automatic item transfer when the pouch is full, and clearer meal effect timers.

Additionally, improvements to game stability, particularly for the Steam version, are ongoing.

The development team is committed to enriching the hunting experience, with future updates promising even more powerful monsters and a new system designed to diversify skill builds and equipment rewards. Get ready, hunters – the wilds are calling, and the hunt is about to get even more exciting!

Our take

It’s the perfect time to jump back in and hit some more hunts. This is going to be spicy! I’ve seen people complaining about the Akuma full armour set not being a layered option, or rather, you can’t layer over it. But if that’s the worst to come from it, I’ll take it!

New quest, some free gear and a new way to play for a bit is no bad thing. Throw-in some quality of life changes, so harder monsters and Title Update 2 on the horizon. It feels like we’re eating real good with Monster Hunter Wilds.

At the very least, I’ll put a few more hours in and learn all the Akuma stuff. Then we’ll see about those 8★ tempered buggers. It’s about to get spicy!
