For months, the Monster Hunter community has been in a weird spot with Monster Hunter Wilds.
We’ve been loving Monster Hunter Wilds, don’t get me wrong, but there’s been a growing whisper online since day one. “Is this it? Is it… too easy?”
It’s an odd thing to say, but the point is fair. The story in Wilds is a straight-forward affair, and the end game has been relatively tame.
We have seen arch-tempered monsters, increased difficulties etc. But it hadn’t quite hit as hard as people hoped.
Until last week….

Omega Planetes
Well, Capcom must have heard our collective grumbling, because they’ve just dropped a crossover with Final Fantasy 14 that’s turned the difficulty dial up to eleven.
Enter Omega Planetes, a fight so tough it’s making veteran hunters question everything.
This isn’t your average Tuesday night hunt. Omega Planetes is a multiplayer-focused behemoth that’s designed to be a true test of teamwork and skill.
And let me tell you, it’s working. The Monster Hunter subreddit is a glorious mix of triumphant victory screens and hilarious tales of utter defeat.
Players who once breezed through the game are now finding themselves carted back to camp time and time again. For solo players, it’s a whole other level of brutal.
But here’s the thing: it’s awesome.

Clap-back
After a long stretch of feeling like we were just going through the motions, this fight has brought back that classic Monster Hunter feeling.
You know the one—the sweaty palms, the frantic calls to your teammates. That pure, unadulterated joy of finally taking down a monster that’s been giving you grief for hours.
It’s a challenge that forces you to be a better hunter, to learn the monster’s patterns, and to truly work together with your team.
Truth be told after many runs at just the base-level Omega Planetes, I’ve gone back to normal monsters and been much tighter and focused.
Heck, we even wrote a guide on how to best accomplish the hunt. Monster Hunter Wilds really stepped it up!

Not for everyone
Now, I get it. This kind of difficulty isn’t for everyone. If you’re a purely solo player, you might find this new update more frustrating than fun.
And that’s fair. Playing with online randoms in Monster Hunter Wilds can be a crapshoot, for sure. So consistency or lack thereof, can be frustrating.
But if you stick it out and you enjoy the challenge, Omega Planetes is a gift. This feels like a raid, it feels like a boss in Elden Ring. It feels excellent.
It’s a reminder of what makes this series so special.
What do you think? Have you taken on Omega Planetes yet? Are you loving the challenge, or is it a little too much?
Let me know in the comments. And if you see a hunter out there struggling, give them a hand. We’re all in this together.
