Monster Hunter Wilds: Omega Planetes Tips

Holy cow. Monster Hunter Wilds has released Title Update 3 and with it, brought the Final Fantasy Crossover.

That means chocobo cuteness, sure. But it also means that we’re getting ruined by the latest monster to join the game. Omega Planetes.

The is a rough, challenging hunt and once you’re through with the normal one, there’s an even tougher “Savage” variant.

It’s been much more effort than we expected, and we wanted to share some of our knowledge to help you get through the hunt yourselves.

This guide breaks down everything you need to know, from pre-hunt preparation to combat mechanics. Get out there, and take down this mechanical menace.

Pre-Hunt Preparation

Success begins before you even step into the arena. Proper setup can make this fight significantly easier.

Best Support Hunters to Bring

Don’t underestimate the power of the recently buffed Support Hunters, especially if you are playing solo or in a duo. They are incredibly viable for this fight. To add them to your quest:

  1. When posting the quest, go into the quest settings.
  2. Navigate to options and select “Support Hunters Only.”
  3. You can then choose specific hunters to accompany you.

Recommended Support Hunters:

  • Alyssa (MVP): An absolute powerhouse for this hunt. Alyssa will act as your dedicated tank, drawing enmity (aggro) and keeping Omega’s attention. This frees you up to focus entirely on dealing damage.
  • Kai: A new Support Hunter who wields a Hunting Horn. He provides a constant stream of buffs by dropping Echo Bubbles, significantly boosting your combat effectiveness.
  • Rosso: A decent option for adding extra damage to the hunt.

Underrated Armor Skills & Elemental Weaknesses

Consider slotting in these skills to give your team an edge:

  • Guard Up: Essential for anyone using a shielded weapon (Lance, Gunlance, etc.). It allows you to block nearly all of Omega’s attacks, provided you have the stamina.
  • Wide-Range: A fantastic skill for team play. It allows a dedicated healer to keep the entire party’s health topped up by using items like potions. Very helpful if you main Sword and Shield, like we do, these days.

Remember to exploit elemental weaknesses:

  • Omega is weak to the Thunder element.
  • The Nascilla clone (Phase 3 add) is weak to the Fire element. Bringing a secondary weapon with Fire can be very useful.

Core Fight Mechanics

This fight introduces several unique mechanics inspired by Final Fantasy 14.

The Enmity (Aggro) System

Enmity is a special form of aggro that determines who Omega focuses on.

  • How to Gain Enmity: Repeatedly attacking Omega’s head will draw its attention and give you enmity.
  • Indicators: When a player has enmity, a red line will connect them to the monster, and an indicator will appear on the side of the screen.
  • Strategy: The ideal strategy is to have one player with a shielded weapon (the “tank”) focus the head to maintain enmity. All other DPS players should focus on attacking Omega’s legs to avoid accidentally stealing aggro.

How to Get & Use the Shield

A vital mechanic for survival is the energy shield. It allows you to mitigate massive damage while creating windows for attack. There are several ways to generate one:

  • Focus Strike on the Head: When Omega’s head is wounded (indicated by a red sparkling effect), often after it performs a laser attack, a successful Focus Strike on the head will generate a shield.
  • Shield Generator Slinger Pods: Look for small piles of rubble around the arena. Interacting with them grants you a Shield Generator pod, which you can fire to place a shield anywhere on the ground.
  • Glowing Mini-Robots: When Omega summons a swarm of smaller robots, one may be glowing. Destroy this glowing robot before it self-destructs to spawn a shield.
  • The Nascilla Clone: In Phase 3, you must defeat the Nascilla clone while Omega charges its ultimate attack. Slaying the clone generates a massive shield required to survive the blast.

Important Note: Shields will block projectile attacks like lasers and missiles, but physical attacks like a leg slam or a charge will go straight through them.

Omega’s Key Attacks (And How to Survive Them)

Omega has a deadly arsenal of attacks. Here’s what to look out for.

  • Mustard Bomb (AoE Fire): A pulsing circle will appear on a targeted player and move with them.
    • Action: If you are targeted, immediately run to the outer edge of the arena, far away from your team. This will drop a large, persistent field of fire that deals heavy damage. Keeping these away from the center is crucial.
  • MIRV Missiles: Omega fires a barrage of up to four homing missiles in quick succession.
    • Action: If you are targeted (usually the player with enmity), you must keep moving or block them. Guarding this attack will require significant stamina and likely healing support. If no one has enmity, it may target all players.
  • Rocket Fists: Giant rocket-powered fists will launch and chase down each party member.
    • Action: You can either perform a superman dive to evade the impact or attack the fists directly to destroy them before they connect.
  • Health Debuffing Orb: Later in the fight, Omega will deploy a debuffing orb that reduces your maximum health if you are hit.
    • Action: The effect is not permanent and will gradually fade if you avoid getting hit again and do not have enmity. Avoid getting multiple stacks of this debuff, as it will severely limit your survivability.

Savage Mode Survival Guide

Savage Omega hits harder and introduces new wrinkles to the fight.

  • Use Environmental Traps: Each area after the first zone contains large environmental traps. Lure Omega underneath them (best done by the player with enmity) and have another player trigger them for massive damage and a long opening.
  • Break Wounds Quickly: The Savage version will actively heal its wounded parts if you don’t break them fast enough. Focus fire on any part that becomes wounded.
  • Focus the Legs to End Enrage: When Omega enters its enraged “Pantokrator” mode, wounding and breaking its legs will force it back to its normal state. DPS should always prioritize the legs.
  • Beware the Double Dash: In Savage mode, Omega gains a dangerous double dash attack. Be prepared to dodge twice, as getting clipped by its legs during the movement is devastating.
  • Utilize Pictomancer Spells: These special collaboration abilities are on a cooldown and deal a surprising amount of damage. Use them whenever they are available, especially to clear out mini-robots and rocket fists quickly.

Leveraging the Omega Armor Set

If you’ve already defeated the normal version, craft the Omega armour set. The 4-piece set bonus grants you the “Blackest Night” item skill.

  • This ability can be placed on your radial menu for quick use.
  • It acts as a “panic button,” creating a temporary barrier that can absorb a fatal blow and allow you to unleash a powerful counter-attack.
  • Caution: After the counter-attack, you will be left with extremely low HP, so be ready to heal immediately.

A Prickly Secret: The Endemic Cactus

Finally, a tip for collectors! During the Omega hunt, you can find a unique Cactuar endemic life. Make sure to use your Capture it on it to add it to your collection. It can be dangerous to capture mid-fight, but it only seems to appear in this quest. Don’t miss out!

Be persistent

Monster Hunter is often at it’s best when there’s a tough challenge. You get the most satisfaction from a hunt when you’ve had to work or it.

Yes, playing with randoms online is a crapshoot. Between ability, build and monster experience, you can end up with some dud allies. Don’t forget we’ve all been that person struggling to work it out and to be a cohesive part of the squad.

Have patience. Expect to fail and then just pick yourself back up and go again.

This is where Monster Hunter and games like Dark souls and Elden Ring shine. You learn, you get better and you overcome the challenge. It’s excellent, and whilst we don’t have G Rank hunts yet, this is a pretty good example of how tricky Monster Hunter can be!

All being well Arkveld gives Final Fantasy players a tough time, too…..
